Citrone's
About This Spot
Stepping into Citrone's feels like a gentle pause in the rhythm of Chester-le-Street’s Front Street. The moment you cross the threshold, there's an unhurried hum — a mix of warm greetings, quiet clinks of crockery, and the soft murmur of friendly chatter. It’s the kind of place where time seems to slow just enough for you to settle in and soak up a comforting sense of familiarity.
The café embraces a relaxed, retro spirit that subtly nods to a 1950s diner, with its clean and well-kept surroundings inviting you to linger over a slow morning or a midday break. Here, the pace is calm but welcoming, capturing a neighborhood rhythm that feels both rooted and genuinely open. The environment carries an easygoing friendliness, where locals and visitors alike are greeted like old friends — and four-legged companions are more than welcome to join.
Food and drink at Citrone’s are a heartfelt extension of this warmth. Whether you’re starting the day with a well-pulled cappuccino or settling in over a thoughtfully prepared English breakfast, there’s a reassuring quality in every bite and sip. The menu offers a balanced mood of sweet and savory, all crafted with a noticeable care that makes each plate feel like a small celebration of everyday flavors. Portions are generous, the value honest, and the experience never feels rushed.
Comfort is found not only in what arrives at the table but in the subtle details: genuine smiles from the staff who clearly take pride in their kitchen, the ample seating that invites conversation or quiet reflection, and a charming simplicity that makes this spot feel like a tucked-away gem in the town. Citrone’s is less about flair and more about the quiet joy of familiar tastes and human moments — where you might just find a slice of home waiting for you.

Amazing breakfast, clean and welcome environment. The lady that served us was so lovely, she cared about the food that comes out of her kitchen and you could taste it. The place is like going back in time in the best way possible. We just felt like home. A must visit place. Their menu have sweet and savory options.

Certainly has a 1950’s Diner vibe which is great and the place is clean and well maintained. CASH ONLY so after I’d walked down the street to Lloyds Bank ATM I went for the big breakfast. Good food, good friendly service, and a good atmosphere.

A similar theme to a 1950s American Diner in the furniture Citrone’s has. A place where you can sit with your friends and family and bond over the week you’ve had over coffee and some good food. The place is full of life, you can feel it and see it when you walk in the door. The service is brilliant, everyone is welcoming and warm when you approach the counter. The food is the best I’ve had in a very long time and it’s a big reason I come back at least 3 times a month. All their food is cook to order and it doesn’t take long to cook either, it’s fresh and hot always when you pick it up. Which makes it one of the best places in Chester-Le-Street just for that reason alone; however the other reasons such as the ones mentioned above make it THE best place in area. Great food, great atmosphere and great overall experience. If you were interested in going here, do it. You won’t regret it.

Very friendly staff with a great selection of hot food and cakes. Thier milky coffee is the hottest in town! Toasted teacakes are a favourite of ours and to finish off the ice cream is the best! Plenty of seating available and tables always cleared away quickly.
